Arboricultural Management Plan – South Bank Parklands

Date: 2011 – 2025 (Current)

Client: City Parkland Services (CPS)

Project Background:

Arbor Australis Consulting (AAC) has helped manage the trees of South Bank Parklands since 2001. We have developed our reporting brief to meet the client’s needs. From general advice on tree management to detailed investigations. In 2011 following the Brisbane floods, the initial detailed assessment and management plan was developed.

Assessment Challenges:

Due to the area’s high foot-traffic, and ongoing development works within the park many issues were identified involving individual trees to whole vegetation areas. These issues were assessed, and remediation was proposed, including root growth, monitoring, and remedial pruning to manage risk and infrastructure conflicts.

CPS required a system that would allow them to easily access the current tree data, and their record of historical assessments, demonstrating the assessment process and duty of care compliance.

Furthermore, a system would allow CPS to close out both risk and general management related tree works as the contractors complete them. This live data approach ensures works are programmed efficiently and cost effectively.

Our Solution:

Following the review of multiple systems for data collection/management, the Konect software was chosen as the delivery platform. Existing tree data was imported into Konect, as part of the 2020 assessment.

The system allows park managers to understand the risks that their trees pose. Allocating work to be programmed and prioritised to meet budget constraints. This approach removes the ad-hoc delivery of service, resulting in increased cost efficiencies with planned priorities.

The Arboricultural Management Plan provides a reference point for tree assets that can be used to document the total number of assets. Additionally, the system allows park management to easily review historical data on trees.

AAC Arboricultural Management Plan is fully customisable, designed to meet the needs of our clients through intelligent, cost-effective and auditable functions.
